Yoga Studies from January to June 2022

YOU HAVE BEEN PRACTICING YOGA FOR A WHILE, YOU KNOW THAT THERE IS ELSE BEYOND THE POSES, AND YOU WOULD LIKE TO EXPLORE, BUT WHERE TO START? IF YOU WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT ALL ASPECTS OF YOGA, BUT DON’T WANT TO FOLLOW A TEACHER TRAINING, OUR YOGA STUDIES SERIES IS THE PLACE TO START.

Join Emma, experienced yoga teacher, for a series of 6 educational yoga workshops from January to June 2021, that you can take separately or as a whole. This series is for people who want to deepen their knowledge of yoga as a mind science, and / or for teachers who want to review these foundational topics.

For teachers: you can apply this series of workshops to your Continued Education credentials if you are registered with Yoga Alliance. Emma is a Yoga Alliance Continued Education Provider (YACEP).

1. Introduction to the Philosophy of Yoga, part 1: the Yoga Sutras - 29 January, 2:30-5:30pm

The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali is a classical yoga text that is still used to this day as a foundation for practice and teaching. It systematizes yoga as we know it, beyond the physical practice. In this workshop, we will dive into the philosophy and what is often referred to as the 8 Limbs of Yoga. We will also see how this philosophy is still relevant today, for a yoga practice on and off the mat.

2. Introduction to the Philosophy of Yoga, part 2: the Bhagavad-Gita - 26 February, 2:30-5:30pm

The Bhagavad-Gita is another classical text that has had a huge impact on yoga over the centuries. We will have a look at the main teachings of the book, explore the concepts of non-attachment, Karma yoga, Bhakti yoga, what dharma is, and how these concepts still apply to this day for a complete yoga practice.

3. Introduction to the Philosophy of Yoga, part 3: the Myths of Asanas - 26 March, 2:30pm-5:30pm

The names of some popular yoga asanas come from characters and stories from Indian mythology. In this workshop, we will travel with the main Hindu gods and goddesses and share their stories, to understand better how they are connected to the body shapes we practice today.

4. Introduction to the Philosophy of Yoga, part 4: Anatomy of Breath - 23 April, 2:30-5:30pm

In a yoga class, we are often told to breathe or how to breathe, whether in movement or in specific pranayama exercises, but we don’t really know what’s happening in the body and what the mechanisms of breathing are. In this workshop, we will have a look at the anatomy of breathing, both from a biological and yogic anatomy point of view, to understand our body and ultimately know ourselves better.

5. Introduction to the Philosophy of Yoga, part 5: the Chakra System - 21 May, 2:30-5:30pm

The word « chakra » in Sanskrit means « wheel », and refers to energy centres in your body. There are seven major chakras that extend from the base of your spine to the crown of the head. But are they real and how do they work exactly? This workshop will bring answers to these questions.

6. Introduction to the Philosophy of Yoga, part 6: Practicing with Intention: Sequencing- 18 June, 2:30-5:30pm

The form of yoga we practice today is mostly physical, using asana and movement. How can we use our physical practice to embody all that yoga offers, as an embodiment of the philosophy? In this workshop we will look at the concept of Vinyasa Krama (which is not limited to the style of Vinyasa yoga but can be applied to all paces and styles), so you can take your self-practice to a deeper level: body, breath, mind, and spirit.

All 3h-workshops will consist of a lecture / discussion, followed by a physical practice. Please bring pen and paper / notebook, as well as your yoga mat.

Price per person per workshop: 50 euros. Cancellation policy: 24 hours before event - less than 24 hours, event will be charged.

You can also book and purchase the whole series for 250 euros (ie 1 complimentary workshop) or gift it to a loved one HERE.

Minimum 6 people, maximum 12, to foster exchanges and discussions.
